Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith

Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith

The people of Remalna live peacefully beside the Hill Folk as long as they maintain the Covenant to cut down no color trees. However, times become hard under an unjust and tax hungry king and rumor says the king plans to break the Covenant. When Meliara and Branaric's father dies, his death wish is for his children to overthrow the king and bring peace and prosperity to the kingdom.

Mel and Bran, now Lord and Lady of Tlanth, begin a rebellion, but Count Shevraeth continually thwarts their efforts. While scouting for information, Mel is captured by the Count and finds herself entangled in politics she doesn't understand. Soon she is running for her life and unsure about who is a friend or a foe. Crown Duel introduces an interesting world with strong and complex characters. The story is perfectly paced for adventure lovers with a little fantasy twist as well.
