Trouble begins when Sophronia gets top marks at Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality. Her excellent work at high society spying earns disapproval and alienation from her closest friends. To make matters worse, the school is making an unexpected and very unusual trip to London and they are accompanied by some students from Bunson and Lacroix's Boys' Polytechnique. Sophronia knows something strange is afoot and she must use all her covert skills while still maintaining the dignity of a lady.
I continue to love this hilarious and imaginative series that began with Etiquette and Espionage. Gail Carriger creates delightful characters in a wonderful steampunk Victorian England. She provides the currently popular paranormal characters, but includes humorous twists and ridiculous situations. There is always mystery and adventure, but it remains light and fun. The Finishing School series is perfect for readers who enjoy paranormal romance, but might be getting loaded down with dark and tragic plotlines. Sophronia and her friends continue to delight with political intrigue and steampunk adventures.
