In a thirteenth-century Chinese circus, Haoyou is hired to be a kite rider. He rides the human-sized kite in an attempt to raise his family from their poverty. However, Haoyou's job becomes more than just physically dangerous as the circus manager gets involved in the political unrest of the time.
